Lucy Thomas

Head of Retail | Auckland Airport

Lucy Thomas leads the retail and commercial division at Auckland Airport, one of New Zealand’s largest infrastructure businesses. With responsibility across both international and domestic terminals, Lucy oversees the full spectrum of airport retail – from duty free, food and beverage, and specialty retail to services and paid media/advertising. Her team manages the entire commercial retail lifecycle: planning, design, leasing, development, delivery, and day-to-day operations.

Over her 19-year career in airport commercial roles, Lucy has worked across developments big and small – from major terminal transformations to right-sized solutions for domestic travel. Lucy’s remit extends well beyond retail – she brings a broad understanding of terminal planning, operational dynamics, contract development, and infrastructure pressure points. A major recent milestone included opening Mānawa Bay, New Zealand’s first purpose-built outlet centre. Lucy and her team developed the concept from the ground up – including brand development, design, leasing, launch, and operations. Built with sustainability at its core, Mānawa Bay sets a new national benchmark for outlet retail.

Lucy represents Oceania on the board of the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA), and her earlier background in consumer insights (TNS Kantar) informs a commercially focused, customer-led approach. Having negotiated almost two decades of whatever airport life can bring, Lucy brings depth, pragmatism, and a track record of delivering results.
